Akido was GREAT tonight. I had trouble with one move, but perfected another as best I could. I can move around pretty well, but I have difficultly centering my qi. My teacher didn’t come like he SAID he would for the past three days, so I’m slightly ticked, but I guess he’s got better stuff to do. So we went through normal routines, did the rolls faster than if that one lady was there, then did feet exercises to help our mobility. We flowed into a takedown based on the exersize which I couldn’t get right, but it was fun to try all the same.
And then we did The Test.
Last 10 minutes of class, he makes us get a partner (I chose Teresa, o’ course) and one of us had to close our eyes and reach out with our senses. The other guy would hold his fist somewhere below our chin, and we’d tap it with our eyes closed if we could locate it. So I ended up being split from Teresa because one of the guys with the awesome-looking eyes wanted to try it with me. I got every one, and they thought I was peeking so they made sure my eyes were closed before doing it again.
First of all, everybody has a different body odor, and Awesome Eyes has a very distinctive one. So if his hand was near me and I smelled it, I knew it would be near my nose. Then I would hear it on the air and figure out which side it was on. If there was no smell and I could barely hear it, I knew it was down low. It was really amazing to work with all my senses for once, and I very much liked it.
So the sensei was intrigued and brought me to the center after I explained what I was doing. He put his hands behind his back and told me to close my eyes, then open them when he opened his hand. I zeroed inon the sound of his sound, picturing it in my hand, and I heard it so I opened my eyes. He just stood there, dumbstruck, and I was too busy giggling and trying to explain it. You know like when you hold your hand next to your ear then open it? You can hear it? I heard it from a meter and a half away. And I could smell the other guy.
So then Awesome Eyes tells me to close my eyes and says he’s going to hit me with an open hand strike. I actually thought he was going to hit me, so my mind went into overdrive and suddenly I just knew where it was going to be—center of my chest. I put my hand out to wave it away, but he hadn’t even PUNCHED yet. Then Ken, one of the cool guys there, says, “I saw him about to punch there.” AE agreed and said he was visualizing punching right there.
So I am now known as the Amazing Abby, which is awesome! Once they realized that sometimes I can eavesdrop on telephone conversations, sensei was saying, “Protect your eyes, Abby. Protect them. Have you ever taken an ear test?” There’s an ear test? “Man, they’d have the Navy conscripting you, sonar detector.”
So WOW, I love Akido, I can’t wait to go again.
PS: About Awesome Eyes, his eye color is a deep blue with a whitish glow around the iris. You should see them, I mean they’re awesome.
