Well this is another RPG idea I've had kicking around for awhile to add something other then a sci fi RPG. I decided to post it because after watching a zombie movie marathon I finally wrote up a story line.
It all started in a research facility in Minnesota, the researchers where trying to find a way to reduce the aging process. They where attempting to alter the genetic code to stop the body from producing the enzymes which the suspected where the cause of many of the symptoms of old age.
They did much more then they expected.
After finding a genetic alteration which they thought would work they created a viral carrier for it and infected monkeys with the virus. They weren't expecting signs of success fro years, and as such shipped the monkeys to a holding facility in New York city. Three days after the monkeys where infected they began to act strangely battering themselves against the cages to the point of death. Worried an intern used a sedative on one of the monkeys and puled it out of the cage.
The intern ran a quick medical check on the monkey including taking a sample of blood, he then put the monkey back in its container and reached for the medical equipment. He accidentally pricked himself with the needle muttered a curse and put it in the biohazard container
He gave the blood and diagnostics to one of the researchers and headed home with a painful headache. the next morning he came into work once again but only to pick up his supplies, he was going to take a few more days of leave because his headache was getting worse and worse.
while he was getting a few items from his locker he passed out.
When he was found a few hours later he was awoken by a few people standing over him asking him how he was... only two got away from the room alive... both of them infected. the virus continued to be passed from person to person, before it could be contained a man infected with it got overseas.
three weeks have passed since the initial out break and the world has changed. almost 7/8ths of the worlds population has died and the majority of whats left are infected. A few have survived however taking a treatment that prevents that kills the carrier virus. However the treatment doesn't effect the actual genetic code meaning if the virus has already managed to affect a person they are unsaveable.
The treatment is easily created, but only a few know how to create it. The only place which has created the treatment is a military base which was set up out side of New York city. This base is one of the few havens world wide, and is the starting place of our story...
The first posts will acquaint everyone and show everyone the setting. After which a disaster (you'll see later) will strike the base and the characters will be forced out into the infected world to attempt to make there way to another haven.
The characters can be of any nationality and back ground as long as you can give a reason as to which the ended up at the military base. Characters which come in after the base is destroyed will be survivors, that have boarded up somewhere.

Name: Morgan Gates
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Appearance: 6'5 with sandy blond hair, he has wide shoulders and would make a imposing appearance accept for the fact that he keeps his shoulders slumped making him seem smaller then he is. He has hazel eyes with a internal circle of brown and a external circle of green.
Personality: Has a dry sense of humor and has a habit of passing off serious situation as if they don't mean a thing a passing sorrowful events off as if he doesn't care. However its just a charade to hide the fact that he cares deeply for those around him and there well being.
Home Town: Phoenix AZ, USA
Brief History: Brought up in a stereotypical white collar neighborhood. He is appears to be you're typical "city boy" hiding the fact that his dad is from rural Idaho and that he has spent large amounts of his free time in the wild camping, hunting, and fishing. He has managed to avoid almost every fight or disaster in his life, never being put up to the test until the outbreak. He is just starting to show his true mettle. he was in New York on vacation with his family when the disaster struck, they where stuck in a quarantine zone for a week until his father was infected and he was forced to flee eventually running into a military convoy. They took him with them, keeping him locked in a storage container, until he was brought to the military base and was tested for the virus.

Age: 29
Gender: Male
Appearance: 6'0 with light brown hair, and brown eyes. He has a small scar on the left side of his face, and a newly formed half circle scar on his neck.
Personality:is very standoffish keeping from getting to close to any one. but he is also a natural born leader easily gaining others trust and respect. He has strong morals, and sees every human life as important.
Home Town: Alan Texas, USA
Brief History: Growing up in a household which held a persons trustworthiness and morals above all else, he learned from a early age to never tell a lie and to always help others. However his parents believed int eh view so strongly that they would only let him play with the friends they thought where trust worthy and no one ever met there levels. Meaning that Sam was always a loner, and rarely made friendships. He joined the army at 18 to allow him to help others and see the world. He was quickly made a sergeant and served on multiple tours. at 27 he graduate officers school with the rank of second lieutenant. he was then station in New York city, and was there at the start of the out break.

History:
Mick Wesker was born in a small country town in Western Australia, 1955, where he lived with his family until his parents split up and he moved with his father to New York City, USA. His father was a WWII veteran and had a large collection of hunting rifles which he trained Mick to use. Mick became proficient with these weapons during their numerous hunting trips, these trips also allowed him to develop exceptional survival and outdoors skills. Mike never graduated high school as he managed to fraud his way into the military at the age of 15 in 1970 because of his want to do something for his country, both his home country and his new one. He was deployed in Vietnam and excelled in combat, earning a distinction and a bravery award. He rose quickly through the ranks and was promoted to Sergeant only two weeks before the Vietnam war came to an end.
He returned home only to find his father had passed away during his absence. Suffering several bouts of depression in the following years Mike was deployed in several other overseas exploits including Lebanon and Panama before retiring to an isolated cabin, going to cities only for supplies and memorial events.
Mick was in NYC for a weapons convention when the virus hit, he eventually made his way to the military base and managed to secure entrance through on of the higher up officers at the base whom he served under in Vietnam.
Personality:
Mick shows little regard for anyone in society; an aspect of him that is only the reflection of the way he is treated as a veteran of many wars. He cares deeply, however, for those close to him, mainly his surviving comrades and the few friends he has made outside of war. He is a recluse who doesn't share feelings or emotions and only speaks when he deems it necessary.
Junk Angel's
Name: Petra Iblis
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: 167 cm with somewhat short dirty-blonde hair. She appears to resemble her height, in part due to standing relatively upright most of the time. If looked closely, one can see, she used to have done some extensive training, yet slacked on it over the past few years, but that she was slacking recently.
Personality: She's got a penchant for being sarcastic, in moments when it is entirely not appropriate. Though at the same time, she's quite curious, one of the reasons that brought her to the US in the first place, to take part in one of the student exchange programs.
Home Town: Prague. CZ
Brief History: Born in Prague, yet lived in India and Nigeria for a number of years. On top of that, she grew up surrounded by guys most of her life, sometimes even being the only female in class for instance. This did have an effect on her personality in a number of ways.
Still she used to do martial arts for long stretches of her life, and was a medium distance runner.

Morgan sat looking out over the hastily constructed wall, the sun slowly sank over the horizon. He sighed "Its still so beautiful, even though it foretells a horrible time." he stood up and climbed down the ladder.
The base was 5kilometer long by 10kilometers wide, with the cafeteria and command buildings located in the center and a large number of hastily constructed prefab living quarters around it. There where 20 armories spread out across the base.
Morgan walked slowly through the base glancing from side to side at the over crowded quarters. There where over 10,000 people staying in the base, but luckily the number of newcomers lowered every day.
He walked into the cafeteria and glanced up at the server "Whats for lunch today Rob?" "The usual, MREs, I've got steak dinner, and fried Chicken right now." Morgan laughed slightly "Can't turn down a good o'le home cooked steak dinner now can I?" Rob smiled "Of course not here it is, he pulled a tray out from under the counter "And we've got a special treat today, Coka Cola" I smile spread across Morgan's face "Oh, now that is a treat, Haven't had caffeine in awhile" he grabbed the tray and went back and sat down at the end of one of the tables and started to eat

The gun thumped lightly against Sam's shoulder as he let loose a burst of bullets. the creature in front of him wobbled backwards and fell over but just started to get up again. Sam gritted his teeth and just held down the trigger sending a hail of M4 bullets into the things skull. Blood and bone fragments went flying everywhere. and the thing finally stopped moving.
Sam panted slightly and glanced down at the thing. He grabbed his walkie talkie and pressed down teh talk button "This is Bravo 2, I'm 3 clicks south of the entrance point, and I've got a dead one. I repeat I have killed one and Am in sight of its body." Another voice crackled from the walkie talkie "I hear you Bravo 2, sending a convoy out to pick you and the thing up. ETA 30 minutes" Sam sighed "I copy Base, I'll wait"
He sat down against a corner and glanced up at the sun "They'll be cutting it close, we've only got about 50 minutes until its dark..."
