As my mom left with Vania, the room went silent. It was an extremely uncomfortable silence, one which I desperately wanted to break, but couldn't find the words to. Oddly enough, this whole mess hadn't effected me. I knew we would have to leave home, and althought I didn't expect it, I wasn't that upset about it. Perhaps deep down inside thats what I really wanted? Or perhaps I was still in shock. Either way, I knew it was a different story for Emma and Demlan. They made the choice to leave with us, but it obviously wasn't an easy one.
I wanted to say something to them, but I didn't know what.
I wasn't the only one holding my tongue. The room stayed silent for at least a minute, though it felt more like an hour. Finally Takk spoke.
"Alright, alright... I can't take the pressure anymore. I'm not a drama teacher." He said wit ha straight face.
I actually let out a little laugh, but pulled it back in again as I didn't know whether or not laughing would be right.
"Well..." My dad began, "It looks like we are leaving in the morning. We best get packing."

He coughed and looked around the room. "So, uh, what am I doing here?" he asked, completely lost and bewildered.

I shrugged. "Beats me." No doubt Ben would say something smart about me getting old and forgetful. "Isn't there a war going on... or something?"
